Engineering and Architecture Overhaul
The SF-26 represents what the team describes as a comprehensive redesign of the vehicle’s architecture to meet the upcoming 2026 rule changes. These regulations mandate more compact vehicle dimensions and a revised power unit configuration. Key technical highlights include:
- Power Distribution: A near-equal split between internal combustion and electrical power output.
- Aerodynamics: Integration of active aerodynamic systems to optimize drag and downforce.
- Suspension: The use of pushrod suspension systems at both the front and rear of the chassis.
- Engine Packaging: A notable serrated edge along the top of the engine cover, as seen in the initial renders.
- Fuel: The power units will operate exclusively on sustainable fuel blends.
Loic Serra, Technical Director for Chassis, emphasized that the design phase focused on creating a platform with sufficient flexibility for mid-season evolution, noting that efficiency and the integration of active aero were primary development goals.
Visual Identity and Livery
The SF-26 marks a departure from the matte finishes used by Ferrari over the past seven seasons, with the team returning to a high-gloss paint. The red and white color scheme draws inspiration from the 1975 Ferrari 312T, the car driven by Niki Lauda to his first world title. This aesthetic was previously previewed during a special edition livery used at the 2025 Italian Grand Prix.
Testing and Season Launch
Following the reveal and initial shakedown, Ferrari will join other teams for a private testing session in Barcelona from January 26-30. Two subsequent tests are scheduled for Bahrain before the 2026 season officially commences at the Australian Grand Prix, held from March 6-8.
