The MG Majestor SUV, a forthcoming large sport utility vehicle, has been observed undergoing off-road testing ahead of its official launch scheduled for February 12th. Positioned as a direct competitor in the full-size SUV segment, the Majestor is anticipated to challenge established models such as the Toyota Fortuner.
Off-Road Capabilities and Market Positioning
Recent spy photographs depict the Majestor navigating off-road trails in Coorg, Karnataka, specifically at the Orbit Adventure facility. These images, captured by automotive enthusiast Rakshith Nanaiah, suggest a focus on rugged capability for the new model. A key distinction highlighted for the Majestor is the inclusion of three locking differentials, a feature typically found in more specialized off-road vehicles. This contrasts with the single locking differential present in the MG Gloster and Toyota Fortuner, potentially enhancing the Majestor’s off-road performance. The Majestor was previously showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo and Auto Expo 2025, signaling its imminent market entry.
Exterior Design Updates
While sharing a similar side profile with the Gloster, the Majestor introduces distinct front and rear styling elements. The front fascia features a larger, more prominent grille flanked by vertically arranged LED headlight units. Above these, new LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are present, with a second set of vertically oriented DRLs positioned alongside the main grille. The vehicle incorporates substantial body cladding, contributing to a rugged aesthetic, complemented by a high bonnet with sculpted creases. Estimated wheel specifications include 19-inch rims paired with approximately 255-section tires. At the rear, new LED tail lights are connected by a light bar, above a redesigned bumper featuring twin exhaust tips and prominent “MAJESTOR” lettering.
Powertrain Specifications
The Majestor is expected to utilize the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Twin Turbo Diesel engine, which produces approximately 220 PS of peak power and up to 480 Nm of peak torque. This engine will likely be mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. A 4X4 transfer case is anticipated to be standard, providing additional torque multiplication for demanding off-road conditions.
Interior and Drivetrain Innovations
Inside the cabin, updates are reported to include refreshed infotainment and instrument screens. The most notable interior feature, as previously mentioned, is the visible implementation of three locking differentials, underscoring the vehicle’s design intent for enhanced off-road performance. Initial observations from camouflage elements also suggest potential marketing positioning as “India’s first D+ SUV.”
