Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Mechanical Updates and Feature Enhancements Expected by 2026

Volkswagen is reportedly preparing a mid-life refresh for the Taigun to maintain its standing in India’s increasingly crowded mid-size SUV segment. Since its initial market entry in 2021, the Taigun has faced stiff competition from the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, as well as newer entrants like the Honda Elevate. The upcoming update is expected to align the SUV with Volkswagen’s evolving global design language while introducing significant mechanical changes.

Revised Powertrain and Transmission Options

The most notable technical shift involves the entry-level 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder engine, which produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. Reports indicate that the current six-speed torque converter automatic will be phased out in favor of a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. The six-speed manual remains the standard offering for this displacement. Regarding the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder engine (148bhp/250Nm), Volkswagen is expected to stick with the seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission. Consistent with recent updates to the current model, the manual transmission is not expected to return for the 1.5-litre variant.

Aesthetic and Interior Upgrades

Visually, the Taigun facelift will likely adopt a more streamlined appearance. This includes a narrowed upper grille and a more pronounced lower air intake, flanked by redesigned LED headlamp clusters. While the MQB-A0-IN platform remains unchanged, the rear is expected to receive a connected LED light bar. Inside, the cabin will see a boost in equipment levels to match its platform sibling, the Skoda Kushaq. Key features anticipated include:

  • A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
  • Ventilated and electrically adjustable front seating
  • A segment-unique rear seat massaging function
  • A 360-degree camera system on top-tier trims

Despite the addition of a 360-degree camera, the facelift is unlikely to include an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite, a feature currently offered by several rivals in the segment.

Market Timeline and Estimated Pricing

The Taigun facelift is not expected to arrive imminently, as Volkswagen is currently prioritizing the launch of the Tayron in the Indian market. An official unveiling is projected for the second half of 2026. In terms of positioning, the refreshed model is expected to carry a marginal price premium of approximately ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 over the current price range, which currently spans from ₹13.51 Lakh to ₹22.70 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Upon release, it will continue to compete in a high-volume segment that will soon expand to include the revived Renault Duster and the Nissan Tekton.
