Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is preparing to refresh its mid-size SUV lineup, with the 2026 Volkswagen Taigun facelift recently observed during road testing. Following the updates slated for its platform sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun is expected to receive a mid-life cycle update focusing on transmission refinements and enhanced cabin features while maintaining its established mechanical architecture.
Revised Powertrain and Transmission Options
The most significant mechanical update involves the 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine. While the output remains consistent at 115PS and 178Nm, the existing six-speed automatic gearbox is expected to be replaced by a new eight-speed torque converter unit. This engine will also continue to be offered with a six-speed manual transmission. The higher-performance 1.5-liter TSI engine, producing 150PS and 250Nm, will retain its exclusive pairing with the seven-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
Visual updates to the 2026 Taigun are concentrated on the front and rear fascias. Recent sightings of test mules reveal a redesigned front end featuring:
- A larger grille integrated with gloss black elements.
- A distinct D-shaped silver decorative plate.
- Revised headlamp clusters joined by a full-width LED light bar.
- New alloy wheel designs and more pronounced black body cladding.
Despite these cosmetic changes, the vehicle’s footprint remains identical to the outgoing model. It measures 4,221mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and 1,612mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,651mm.
Interior Enhancements and Technology
While official specifications remain confidential, the Taigun is expected to align its feature set with the upcoming Kushaq facelift. Anticipated interior upgrades include:
- A revised cabin theme and updated upholstery.
- The integration of a panoramic sunroof.
- An updated digital instrument cluster and refined infotainment software.
- The addition of massage functions for the rear seats.
Market Pricing and Position
Volkswagen is expected to implement a marginal price adjustment across the Taigun range to account for the new features and hardware. The current model is positioned between Rs 11.42 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted version will continue to compete in the competitive mid-size SUV segment against rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
